Join us for the first garden work-party of the season on Wednesday, March 20, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Staff and volunteers will provide an orientation to the Demonstration Gardens and volunteer opportunities. Meet other gardeners and get your hands dirty preparing garden beds for the new season. Gloves, tools and snacks provided. Garden work days continue every Wednesday morning from March through November, with opportunities for both experienced and novice gardeners. Drop in or adopt your own garden area. Gardeners will learn about soil preparation, feeding plants and the optimal watering cycles for berry species. WHO: Beginners or intermediate gardeners who want tips for growing a successful berry crop WHAT: Learn to grow thriving and productive berry plants INSTRUCTOR: Joel Heller has been growing fruit for over 25 years, selling plants and berries. Two classroom sessions, along with a field trip, will teach students how to identify the call or song of resident birds regularly found at North Mountain Park as well as migratory birds that can be seen in the spring. A water bottle and layered clothing are recommended for the Saturday field trip.
