In this two-session class, learn how to install a beautiful and unique garden on your property utilizing rain water from your roof, driveway or parking lot! Learn why infiltration is important, how to calculate the volume of water your hard area(s) capture, how to determine the correct size and depth for your garden, how to layer the cloth, sand, soil and compost, and which kinds of native and “nearly native” plants are best to use. We’ll end by visiting a local rain garden. Please bring a pen and a notebook, but detailed instructions will also be provided. Who are our pollinators, and why are they important? What challenges are they facing, and what can we do to reverse their population declines? What’s a pollinator garden? Kristina’s presentation will answer these questions in the hopes that others will bee inspired to become pollinator champions and begin looking at landscapes with this question in mind: Would a bee like to live here?
